The Future of Data Aging

SAP® has recently announced that it is no longer investing in the development of data aging. Presumably, the focus will remain on technical objects such as application logs or IDOCs, but there will probably be no use for application objects such as FI documents.

The DSGVO is cited as one of the main reasons for this step.

This has a particular effect on S/4 converters. Customers may have hoped to escape to S/4 HANA and solve the data growth issue with data aging.
The bottom line is that long-standing SAP customers with a large database or high growth cannot get around data archiving or an archiving solution and should actually deal with archiving even before an S/4 conversion, in order to facilitate the conversion and not migrate unnecessary “scrap”.
